Music at Grey Junior

Music plays a significant role at Grey Junior School and our boys are given the opportunity to develop their talents to the full. A large number of boys are involved in the music programme and individual and class lessons are offered during school hours.

Our enthusiastic and experienced full-time staff members are:

Ilse Klingelhoeffer (Junior and Senior Strings)
Lyndi Scott (Piano and Senior Choir)
Marietjie Rootman (Training Band and Orchestra)
Etienne Mecloen (Concert Band and Jazz Band)
Justin Kindness (Foundation Phase Class Music)

Individual tuition is offered in Strings (violin & cello), Piano, Woodwind (clarinet, flute & saxophone), Percussion and Brass (trumpet, trombone, tuba, French Horn) and Bass Guitar.  All boys who attend lessons are expected to serve in the ensemble pertaining to his instrument. The ensembles are Junior and Senior Strings, Junior and Senior Choir, Orchestra, Training Band, Concert Band and Jazz Band.  Piano pupils are expected to sing in the Choir. Group rehearsals start at 07:00 every morning of the school week.

We provide many opportunities for our boys to perform and regular concerts take place in and out of the school campus, where they bring much entertainment to their audiences.  The annual “Music the Grey Way”-concert, where all the ensembles and choirs are showcased, is an event not to be missed.

The various music groups regularly go on tour, visiting other schools and sharing their talents.  Performances are combined with fun experiences and lifelong memories are formed.
